Days Before the Studio — archive photograph — Joe Taveras
Days Before the Studio, 2020. From the original series photographs.

Days Before the Studio records the period immediately before Taveras moved into his first dedicated art studio. A gift of sixty acrylic paints helped set the work in motion.

The photographs show paintings taking shape in a domestic setting, with finished works gathered on walls and around the artist. Cryptic Triptych, Endless!, and Raptor are among the named works preserved in the original presentation.

A practice finding its space

The series sits between the August experiments with watercolor and oil sticks and the larger canvases that followed in the autumn. Color, repeated figures, and increasingly layered compositions connect those changes.
